Frequently Asked Questions

Who can refer a patient to The Institute of Florida?
Any licensed provider can refer—this includes primary care physicians, specialists (neurologists, OB-GYNs, podiatrists, pain management, etc.), physical therapists, and advanced practice providers. We also welcome direct inquiries from patients.
Do patients need a diagnosis before being referred?
Not necessarily. While some patients arrive with a working diagnosis (e.g., pudendal neuralgia, phrenic nerve injury), we also evaluate patients with unresolved symptoms that may suggest nerve involvement. We're happy to assist with diagnostic clarification.
Will my patient continue follow-up care with me?
Yes. We provide a focused surgical consult and will communicate clearly about findings and next steps. If surgery is recommended and the patient proceeds, we’ll coordinate closely with you for post-op and long-term management.
What types of cases are best suited for referral?
Patients with chronic pain, weakness, numbness, or functional decline that has not improved with first-line care—especially when nerve injury or compression is suspected. We also accept referrals for second opinions, diagnostic clarification, and post-surgical complications involving the nerves.
How quickly can my patient be seen?
Evaluations are typically offered during scheduled surgical consult days in Florida, which occur throughout the summer and into the fall. Availability depends on the patient’s condition and the consulting surgeon’s rotation. In many cases, patients are seen within a few weeks. For urgent cases, we do our best to expedite review and placement.
What referral methods do you accept?
You can refer a patient using our secure online referral form, fax, or email. We're also happy to coordinate by phone if preferred.
